PILARC 2015-16 Marysville (Jan 5-7)
PARTNERSHIP INITIATIVE & LEGAL AID TO RURAL COMMUNITIES (PILARC)
This year's PILARC trip was once again in partnership with California Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA) for the third year in a row! HSIR was happy to partner with CRLA and had an amazing 3 days in Marysville and the surrounding areas. HSIR was happy to make the trip free of charge for all participants as a result of copious fundraising efforts in the fall!
HSIR looks forward to continuing this pro-bono and volunteer-work relationship with CRLA in the future. Please click the link below to learn more about the CRLA organization~

TRIP DETAILS
Sixteen UC Hastings students spent three days of their winter break assisting CRLA's Marysville office with a variety of tasks. Laura Ferree, CRLA Marysville's Directing Attorney, provided an interesting mix of tasks that at all times (except breakfast and lunch) kept half the group in the office and half the group out of the office.
In the office:
In the office:
- Face-to-face meetings with clients under attorney supervision to assist in housing-related claims such as unlawful detainer and habitability issues.
- In-house research and brochure writing to provide visitors to the Marsville office with user-friendly and easily understandable legal guides.
- Field work visiting mobile-home parks in Yuba, Sutter and Colusa counties. The purpose of the surveys is to ascertain problems and issues related to the Mobile Home Residency Law and compliance with legal requirements intended to protect tenants.
