Virtual Panel: Impacts of the Pandemic on the Immigration Landscape
We held a virtual panel to discuss the challenges immigrants and immigration practitioners have faced this year, and how immigration law and policy has shifted as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.
We had three panelists share their expertise on our discussion topics based on their respective areas of speciality. Cristina Cigarroa (Staff Attorney at American Gateways) and Professor Karen Musalo (Professor at UC Hastings and Director of the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies) answered questions related to detained migrants and asylum seekers along the border affected by the pandemic. Our third panelist Addie Hogan (Founding Partner of Corporate Immigration Partners) addressed how her employment immigration clients and fellow attorneys have struggled with the lack of clarity with changes in immigration procedures as a result of the crisis.

"As we indulge ourselves in the overwhelming dialogue in defense of DACA, let us not forget that DACA was not a victory for the immigrant community. While it provided very dear protections to some, DACA excluded many of our family members, neighbors, and co-workers. The rescission of DACA serves as a reminder that the fight for immigrants’ rights continues. If it was not clear before, the rescission of DACA signifies that what President Obama offered qualifying immigrants was merely bread crumbs."
