Stay tuned for updates on ICOP 2020-2021!
About: The NLG Immigration Committee is starting up an Immigration Court Observation Project (“ICOP”) in SF. ICOP’s goal is to bring greater transparency and accountability to the immigration court, by documenting the immigration hearings of pro se detained immigrants in San Francisco.
Observation is particularly needed right now, because the court has hired a new group of judges.
Time Commitment: Students must attend the 1-hour training, and commit to observing at least one three-hour hearing in the next four weeks
When to observe: Tuesday afternoon, and Thursday morning and afternoon. Court begins at 9:00am for morning hearings, and 1:00pm for afternoon hearings. Please arrive at least 20 minutes early to allow time to go through security.
Where to observe: 630 Sansome Street, 4th Floor, Courtroom 2.

Continued Involvement: If you are interested in participating in ICOP, please email HSIR at [email protected] for a link to a video training and materials needed for your court observation. After you view the training, you can observe court and submit materials including pro-bono volunteer hours to HSIR.
